Killed As Local Vigilantes On The Rampage Attack Fulanis To Avenge Leader’s Killing In Sokoto.
At least six individuals have been killed after local vigilantes reportedly retaliated against the killing of their leader in a community in the Gada Local Government Area of Sokoto State, northwest Nigeria.
Based on Day by day Belief, the leader of the vigilante group recognized as Alhaji Dahiru Gidan Hashimu was reportedly killed by a terrorist at Kasuwan Kara (cattle market) within the area.
A source aware about the incident, Mustapha Gada stated the leader of Yan Sakai, a vigilante group intercepted the suspect whereas on his way to the local cattle market alongside along with his tribesmen.
The suspected terrorist resisted arrest and stabbed the vigilante leader, killing him.
“When the news about his death reached his colleagues, they mobilized and stormed the market, killing any Fulani man on sight,” the source told Daily Trust.
He continued: “We counted about eight corpses of Fulanis which had been later deposited on the mortuary.
“It was the fast intervention of safety operatives that saved the situation because the Yan Sakai who had been about 100 wished to set the police station the place among the Fulanis bumped into ablaze.
Soldiers surrounded the police station and dispersed them. Nevertheless, the vigilantes razed down all of the Fulani settlements within the space,” a supply stated
Confirming the incident, the spokesman for the state police command, ASP Ahmed Rufa’i stated six persons lost their lives during the incident.
