Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ola Olukoyede has narrated how the previous Governor of Kogi state, Yahaya Bello allegedly moved $720,000 from the state authorities’ account to a BDC and used a few of it to pay his child’s school fees upfront.
Addressing newsmen, the EFCC Chairman said that he can’t be utilized by anybody as claimed by the previous Governor. He additional revealed that he inherited the case upon assuming workplace and accorded Yahaya Bello respect by calling him to ask him for questioning.
Ola Olukoyede mentioned Yahaya Bello gave so many excuses on why he can’t are available for questioning together with requesting for the questioning to be achieved in his village. He mentioned;
“I referred to as Yahaya Bello, as a serving governor, to come back to my office to clear himself. I shouldn’t have achieved that. However he mentioned as a result of a sure senator had planted over 100 journalists in my office, he wouldn’t come.
“I informed him that he can be allowed to make use of my private gate to offer him a cover, however he mentioned my men should come to his village to interrogate him. Rather, we have now obeyed the law. I inherited the case and I didn’t create it. Why has he not submitted himself to the law?
“We met over 30 armed policemen there. We’d have exchanged fire and there would have been casualties. My men have been about to maneuver in when the governor of Kogi drove in and so they later changed the narrative.
“If I can do Obiano, Abdulfatah Ahmed and Chief Olu Agunloye, my kinsman, why not Yahaya Bello?”
