Video of a fistfight between a long-term substitute teacher and a student in a hallway at Valley High School has made its way online.
The Clark County School District (CCSD) Police Department arrested 27-year-old Re’Kwon Smith on Thursday, April 25, following the fight.
Sources inform Information 3 it began round 9:30 a.m. when a verbal argument escalated between Smith and a student. The student is accused of utilizing racial slurs in the direction of Smith who reacted by punching the coed and beginning the fist combat, in accordance with CCSD sources.
A gaggle of students seem to encompass the duo as they try to hit each other. Smith is accused of swinging and seeming to hit the coed to the bottom within the video. The student will get again on his toes and continues to have interaction within the fight.
The person recognized by CCSD Police as Smith is seen in one other video throwing 5 punches and strikes the coed within the face, knocking him to the bottom once more. The person stands over the coed after which slaps him throughout the face.
As the coed continues to lie on the bottom, the person recognized as Smith steps to the aspect and says, “You misplaced your thoughts, boy.”
Students try to assist the coed as much as his toes as a whistle begins to blow within the background and a Campus Security Monitor in a red shirt and hat seems.
Smith is seen within the video telling the coed once more about losing his mind.
The student replied, “You’re going to jail,” and included a racial slur.
CCSD later released an announcement, saying: CCSD doesn’t tolerate violence of any variety. Violence in any kind is unacceptable and goes in opposition to the basic ideas of schooling and respect. Any altercation between a trainer and a student is totally investigated, and applicable disciplinary motion is taken.
A letter to Valley High School families confirmed the altercation, stating they “are conscious of an altercation involving a workers member and a scholar.”
“The data is preliminary, nevertheless, please know that CCSDPD is investigating the matter. As soon as we now have data to share we’ll make sure to replace our community,” the assertion added.
Police booked Smith into the Clark County Detention Center on costs associated to battery with substantial bodily hurt and disturbance of school.
CCSD mentioned Smith was a substitute assigned to Valley High School and has been employed by the District since November 2023.
He will likely be faraway from CCSD’s substitute pool and is not eligible to serve instead within the District.
