Two workers of the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) have been suspended for performing a ritual in their office.
The decision was taken after the SASSA officials and two other men were caught on CCTV cameras coming into the office after work hours. Within the footage, one of many males is seen walking around the office holding what looks like a snake while the other is seen sprinkling liquid around the office. The incident was recorded on April 12.
Their colleagues have been shocked to seek out needles within the workplace and what seemed like muti smeared at their workstations when the resumed work the next day. They alerted their superiors.
SASSA spokesperson in Mpumalanga Senzeni Ngubeni stated the two officials concerned have since been suspended pending investigations. He stated;
“We have came upon that two of our officers have been involved within the incident. Because it stands, they’ve been suspended. Investigation into their conduct is underway.
“We have arranged with the municipality to use the community hall whereas we clear and fumigate the workplace. Members of the public have been informed to use the community hall.”
